Thirteen years ago this week I was siting down to watch the first episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I was familiar with it’s strange title because I had rented it a few times. Not because of it’s cinematic brilliance, but because of Paul Rubens hysterically long death scene. Please, make your day better, and check it out on Youtube.
Now before the days of Youtube, I would gather friends around the television and pretty much force them to watch Paul’s death scene (Not the rest of the film though, friendship can only accomplish so much).
Now there was a television show! What might that be like? Right before the show started I asked my roommate if she wanted to watch. She gave me a look that questioned my sanity and ability to operate heavy machinery so I settled in to watch alone.
I loved it. Funny, well acted, and the writing was brilliant. By the end of the episode even those who had mocked had come around. My roommate who had been in the kitchen the entire time to avoid the show had been listening. I found this out near the end of the show when Xander’s character Read More

I just had to pass a long this priceless gem that I found on www.whedonage.com. For those of you who don’t know, thirteen years ago this week, Buffy The Vampire Slayer premiered on television as a mid-season replacement show. Thus began the cult phenomenon that we are fans of today. The clip below is the premiere trailer that aired promoting the upcoming show. Watch it and reminisce… I think the trailer is actually really good, understanding I am extremely biased. Enjoy!!!

For those of you who frequent the website, you undoubtedly have noticed that the website has undergone a pretty significant overhaul. Since the inception of the Hellmouth Podcast, I have tried to find a suitable format and design for the website with the proper combination of features, ease of use, and “pretty-ness”. Up to this point I have piggybacked on the work of others using designs that were created by others and available for use. I was unable to find a design that fit with the theme of the site and the podcast. Therefore I finally took matters into my own hands and designed the site myself. What you see before you is the finished product.

Some other website changes to take note of. If you are an RSS subscriber previously you have probably noticed that the RSS feed is only updated when new podcast episodes are released. While the podcast episodes are the core of the site, it is only a fraction of the activity on the site that happens on a daily basis. The site is constantly being updated with news and updates regarding the Whedonverse. Consequently, I have setup a second RSS feed that will incorporate all site updates. The podcast RSS feed will remain Read More

It has been confirmed by both the SyFy channel and Felicia Day herself that she is set to star in a new SyFy movie to be released in 2011. The movie, titled “Red”, is a re-telling of the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale with quite a twist.

In the action-packed Red, Red (Day) brings her fiancé home, where he meets the family and learns about their business – hunting werewolves. He’s skeptical until bitten by a werewolf. When her family insists he must be killed, Red tries saving him. Red also stars Kavan Smith (Stargate Atlantis) and Stephen McHattie (Watchmen). Red is produced by Angela Mancuso and Vesuvius Productions in association with Chesler Perlmutter Productions.

I have a love/hate relationship with the SyFy channel. I love them because they are always coming out with great new content for those who are huge Sci-Fi fans like myself. I thought “Tin Man”, the Wizard of Oz remake starring Zoey Deschanel, was phenomenal. I also am a huge fan of “The Dresden Files”. The hate part of our relationship has to do with the short lived run of Dresden Files which I felt could have gone on for at least 2 more Read More

James Marsters has been making the rounds doing interviews to promote his current run on the new Sci-Fi TV series Caprica. In these interviews, the topic of Joss Whedon and his role as Spike which catapulted him to stardom is a frequently discussed.

Marsters has stated that he loves the role of Spike and would definitely be up for reprising the role however Joss Whedon sees fit but the clock is ticking. When the Buffy TV series was drawing to a close and there were rumors about spin-offs, movies, animated series and a multitude of other potential projects; Joss approached Marsters and asked him if he would be up for those projects. Marsters comment to Joss was “I’ll follow you to hell or heaven.” That still stands as far as Marsters is concerned but he is beginning to have concerns over reprising the role of Spike. His concern stems from the ability to stay true to the character. Spike is a vampire, an immortal being who doesn’t age and Marsters believes that while currently it may be possible with lighting and makeup to give the illusion that his character has not aged after having been off-screen for closing on a decade, that window may be Read More

Coming Soon… Netflix will have Buffy The Vampire Slayer Seasons 1-6 available for streaming online through Netflix.

For all of you who do not own the series on DVD and don’t want to watch the series on MTV or LOGO and have to deal with commercials and/or want to blast through the series at your own pace.

If you are not already a Netflix member, I highly recommend it. I am a netflix subscriber and I really enjoy the multiple options Netflix provides. I get the normal DVD mail service, can watch movies and TV streaming on my Mac and since I have an Xbox 360, I can access Netflix Movies and TV through Netflix on Xbox Live. All of that for about $8 a month.

Just for full disclosure, this is not a paid endorsement by Netflix, I just really enjoy the Netflix services and think it is great that Buffy will now be available for online streaming. Read More

Let me preface this post by saying that I think this news is being severely over-hyped. Obviously, this could come back to bite me, no pun intended should this story play out to be true.

I am informing all of you about the latest rumors buzzing about the internet because I know many of you, like me, are clamoring to find out the who, what, when and where of Joss Whedon’s next project.
