- I update the blog multiple times throughout the week with news about the whedonverse and occasionally news about the blog.
- Horrible University
- So let’s get to the episode recap finally, shall we
- Career Fair
- Willow is excited about career fair, I kind of equate Willow to one of those people who has a really good idea about what she wants to do, at least at this point in her life and she is excited about the prospect of moving forward with that dream. I also think that for Willow she might be looking forward to college where perhaps she isn’t going to be seen as the nerd, freak or geek. She might be looking forward to that environment where there are others just like her.
- Xander, like I said, the one who I most closely relate to is seeming frustrated. I think Xander and the writers are making a statement here about career fair. Xander makes the comment about how these personality questionnaires are ridiculous. They can’t possible learn enough about a person by answering a few multiple choice questions to be able to tell them what they should do with the rest of their life.
- Buffy is really upset about the whole career. She doesn’t know why she bothers, her destiny/fate is already set. This is going to be Buffy’s big struggle in this first part of the two part episode.
- Drusilla is reading Tarot Cards
- Spike’s guy is trying to translate the book that they took from Giles
- They are trying to find a cure for Drusilla in the book.
- Drusilla seems to be getting weaker by the episode. Especially in this episode we are going to see her health, if you can call it vampire health, degrade quite a bit even just in the course of this episode and really leads me to believe that Drusilla is on the verge of death here. Which for me really explains a lot about Spike’s behavior. I think that Spike can see that she is not going to survive much longer and it leads to him having a very short temper and acting in some instances with an edge of desperation.
- Drusilla says there is a key to transcribe the book, it is in code, and she read this in her tarot cards.
- Opening Credits
- Buffy on patrol
- Hears something coming from a crypt
- Transcriber guy is chipping away inside the crypt looking for something

- Buffy tells him about the vampire stealing in the cemetery last night.
- Giles is concerned
- Giles is upset that she didn’t track him and find out what he took.
- Vampires don’t normally steal things, this could be bad.
- Spike is sweet-talking Drusilla telling her how great things will be when she gets better.
- Spike decides to bring in the order of Taraka a group of assassins to take care of the slayer and make sure she doesn’t interfere with the preparations for the ritual.
- Back at career fair
- Willow is approached by men in suits.
- She is led into a fancy little room setup in the student lounge.
- She is going to meet with a big software guru.
- There is only one other student meeting with him. It is Oz
- The first meeting of Willow and Oz, he offers her a canapé
- Buffy and Giles at the cemetery, Buffy is being pouty and frustrated
- Giles doesn’t understand why she hates her destiny so much.
- Giles says he never really thought about a slayer having a job, now there is a reason why Giles has never really thought about what Buffy might do as a career as she got older and that is why I am bringing this scene up. The reason Giles has never thought about this is because there is nothing in the Watcher diaries about this.
- They reach the crypt, the vampire was digging in a reliquary
- In the Du Lac crypt
- Josephus Du Lac, excommunicated by the Vatican. It is related to the book stolen, it was written by him. Book contained spells of unspeakable evil.

- Kendra sees Buffy kissing Angel
- Giles identifies the ring as the order of Taraka
- Society of assassins dating back to king Solomon
- Giles is seriously worried, kind of prophecy girl worried
- He wants Buffy to go into hiding.
- These guys just keep coming until the job is done, no matter how many she kills.
- Some are human, some are not.
- They all work alone and have there own methods.
- You won’t know who they are until they strike.

- Just before Willy tells Angel where Spike is , Angel is attacked by Kendra.
- They fight she locks him in a cage in the back of Willie’s place so that when the sun comes up he is toast.
- Giles tells Xander to get Cordelia to drive him to Buffy’s right away and check on her.
- Giles thinks he found something.
- It’s a ritual, to restore a weak and sick vampire back to full health.
- Transcriber has got the ritual.
- Angel is the key to the ritual
- Cordelia is being snotty about having to cart Xander around.
- Play Audio about Scoobies
- First reference to the scoobie gang by Xander here.
- Xander makes his way through the house looking for Buffy
- Bug guy shows up and offers Cordelia some free samples of cosmetics.
- Angel is about to get a serious tan and is fighting to get out of the cage at Willie’s

- Buffy says they need to go to see her Watcher
- Kendra is there to kill vampires
- Giles is trying to figure out Kendra
- Kendra doesn’t understand that Buffy has friends, and her friends know that she is the Slayer
- Giles tries to explain that Buffy is different.
- The new slayer is only called after the previous slayer has died
- Buffy did die, Kendra was called.
- There are now two slayers
- Kendra was sent because a vary dark power was about to rise in Sunnydale

- He attacks Cordelia and Xander
- They hide in the basement and lock themselves in.
- They stomp the worm guy

- Willy shows up and Kendra attacks him
- Willy says he let him go, saved him
- Drusilla and Spike
- Spike has brought Angel to Drusilla
- They tied him up with what? Ropes? That holds Angel?
- Tonight the full moon and the ritual and Drusilla is all better.
- Drusilla is the dark power rising in Sunnydale
- You’ve been a very bad daddy
- Xander and Cordelia in the basement
- They argue, a lot
- I like how the door was barred shut with a broom.
- They make a run for it and Cordelia has worms drop on her from the ceiling. Xander hoses her off he just keeps on hosing her off. Gotta love Xander’s brain.
- Buffy at career day with Willow
- Oz is there to talk to Willow
- Police lady tries to shoot Buffy at career fair.
- Oz gets shot protecting Willow
- This lady has way too many guns.
- Kendra comes to help Buffy
- Jonathan gets grabbed as a hostage
- Oz says being shot is odd and painful
- Assassin has run off
- The entire group re-assembles in the library
- The ritual requires the presence of her sire and a full moon
- Angel is Drusilla’s sire, we learned this in the Halloween episode
- The ritual is going to kill Angel
- Kendra says the priority is to stop Drusilla

- Willow and Oz strike up a conversation and we see the budding of their relationship.
- Xander has to talk to Cordelia about what happened.
- They fight again, and kiss again
- Again the music is hilarious
- Kendra is leaving town
- You talk about slaying like it’s a job, it’s not, it’s who you are.
- That’s not in the handbook, Kendra got that from Buffy
- Oz and Willow talk
- Back at the church in a pile of rubble and ashes, Drusilla has been restored to full health, I would argue she is even more than healed she is abnormally strong for a vampire and while Spike is hurt badly, she picks him up like a rag doll and walks out of the church, the big bad is back, Drusilla!!!
- End Episode.
- Rate the episode
- All kinds of bonus points for this two part episode.
- 1 Bonus point Oz and Willow finally meeet.
- 2 Bonus points Oz takes a bullet for Willow
- 1 Bonus point for Xander and Cordelia kissing
- lose a point because Buffy kills a human and I just feel like morally I should deduct a point there.
- Lose a point because worm guy was a little cheesy and killed too easily in my opinion.
- Lose a point Kendra, if I had to choose gain a point or lose a point for Kendra I choose lose a point.
- 1 Bonus point for Buffy getting over the curse of the Slayer
- lose a point for Buffy kissing Angel in vamp face that was just creepy.
- 1 bonus point for Drusilla getting restored and being a big bad voodoo mama again.
- 1 bonus point for the first mention of the Scoobies on screen.
- 1 bonus point for Mr. Gordo sighting.
- So for me the two part episode starts off as a 9 we gain 8 bonus points and lose 4 points so we end up with 13, and actually 13 seems like a pretty appropriate rating for this episode. Yeah, I feel pretty good about that.
