Nicholas Brendon Arraigned Today
I did not talk about this story when it originally broke about two weeks ago. I was waiting until there was a little bit more information and perhaps even a statement from Nicholas Brendon. However Nicholas Brendon will be arraigned on April 7th.
On March 17th, Nicholas Brendon was arrested in Venice, CA for disturbing the peace and assaulting a police officer. Reports are that Brendon was causing a disturbance in the area, the police were called. When the police arrived, Brendon threw punches at the police officers and ran. He was pursued and tasered, then arrested. Alcohol is listed as a major contributor to the events that took place that night.
Brendon had previously entered rehab in 2004, stating that he was working on dealing with the disease [alcoholism] that was “taking control of my life”.
The reason I am talking about this story now is that today, April 7th, Brendon is being arraigned and if convicted could face up to a $4,000 fine and 2 years in jail.
I am a fortunate person in that alcoholism is not something that I struggle with, but I have had many friends and relatives who battle this addiction every day. Some have one, some have lost, some have died.
It is not my place to judge Brendon for his actions, I will leave that to the legal system, but I would offer my encouragement. It is not my intent to justify or defend Nicholas Brendon or his actions in Venice on March 17th. My encouragement is for a speedy “recovery”. Recovery both mentally, emotionally and physically. Dealing with alcoholism is no easy feat and dealing with the consequences of your actions is part of that painful process.
Good Luck Nicholas, our thoughts and prayers are with you…
