Marti Noxon On Board for Fright Night Remake

Marti Noxon, former Writer/Producer for Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel, is currently working on a script for a remake of Fright Night. Fright Night is a vampire thriller centered around the “old-school” vampire archetype. A blood-sucking killer.

In the original article here, Collider makes an interesting point that in an environment in Hollywood in which vampires are being portrayed as romantic, tortured souls, burdened with a condition of being blood-sucking demons; the Fright Night remake will be a return to the horror aspect of vampires. Their primary obsession being to kill and feed on any unsuspecting human that happens across their path. It is a departure from the tragic romance and emotional brooding that is permeating most vampire incarnations on screen lately.

It should be interesting to see how Noxon interprets this take and return to the origins of vampire lore. My money says that Noxon’s remake will be fantastic. If we learned nothing else from Noxon and her work on Buffy The Vampire Slayer it is that she is capable of writing successfully in any genre. In the case of Buffy she managed to write virtually all of them into a 42 minute TV episode. Given the opportunity to focus on the thriller/horror genre for the length of a feature film, I have no doubt she will shine and don’t be surprised if little spurts of comedy pop up in the midst of the horror and mayhem.

I look forward to seeing what Marti Noxon presents in this remake of Fright Night and hope that the box office numbers do her justice.
