Eliza Dushku and Joss Whedon Feature Film

Let me preface this post by saying that I think this news is being severely over-hyped. Obviously, this could come back to bite me, no pun intended should this story play out to be true.

I am informing all of you about the latest rumors buzzing about the internet because I know many of you, like me, are clamoring to find out the who, what, when and where of Joss Whedon‘s next project.

Apparently, Eliza Dushku was giving a postmortem Dollhouse interview. When asked about future plans she made the following statement “I would say that we would [be working on something new very soon]! I think we’re going to work on a kickass feature together that we’ve been thinking about for a few years.”

Who knows what the context of this statement was and what was meant by very soon.

I have to say that this statement really concerns me. Don’t get me wrong, I love Eliza Dushku, she is a great actress and I would love to see her and Joss continue to work together… I don’t want to see a feature film and let me tell you why.

A feature film means months of screenwriting, casting, pre-production, filming, editing, post-production work and maybe sometime near the end of 2011 or early 2012 we would see a Joss Whedon, Eliza Dushku film. While that would be fantastic, it would last about two and half hours and then it would be over. That means that the next Joss Whedon TV project doesn’t happen until what, the fall of 2012? I for one would hate to wait that long.

What if Joss really enjoys making the film and decides to take a break from TV and focus on films? Then we get two and a half hours of Joss every 18 months? I would much rather get my hour of Joss and Eliza each week rather than short-lived bursts every two years.

What do you think?

I agree. Two years between projects is too long.I have to wonder though if after Dollhouse he feels about done with television at least for a while.
