Hello Hellmouth Podcast listeners. I realize that we are still a ways off from the Once More With Feeling episode but seeing as how it was such a defining moment in television, paving the way for countless imitations and because it is such a beloved Buffy episode I thought the Hellmouth Podcast should do it’s own tribute. Here is the Hellmouth Podcast Once More With Feeling project.

I have found audio tracks for the following songs from the show:

  • Going Through The Motions
  • Under Your Spell
  • I’ll Never Tell
  • Rest In Peace
  • Something To Sing About

Here is my plan, I want all of you to record yourselves singing all or part of these songs and send them to me. I am then going to edit all the submissions together and create our own Hellmouth Podcast soundtrack to Once More With Feeling featuring the voices of all of the Hellmouth Podcast listeners. I will release the songs through the Hellmouth Podcast on iTunes and the website so that we can all enjoy them.

Note to all of you who have just found the podcast! If you just found the podcast and are concerned that you have missed your chance with this project, don’t be concerned at all. I plan on releasing many different versions based on however many people submit their voices. Send them in and I will include them at any time.

So here is what I am looking for from everyone:

  • Sing every song or pick one
  • Sing the whole song or just part of one
  • Sing melody or harmony
  • Don’t worry if you don’t have the greatest singing voice, this if for fun!

I am bringing this up now because the amount of editing this is going to require will take me some time so I wanted to get a head start on getting the first round of songs released.

How To Record Yourself

Here is what I recommend. Find some way to listen to the songs through headphones, if you own the soundtrack this is pretty simple, otherwise if you have the DVDs or Netflix you can run that through a pair of headphones. While listening to the music through headphones, record yourself on your computer or other digital recording device. If you have some kind of microphone for your computer this will work best, some computers come with a built in microphone, this will work as well (sound quality may not be as good).

It is important that the recording you send me has just your voice singing and not the score (music). I would also prefer that the files be in .mp3 format as much as possible. I will then take all the recorded voices and add them all together to create the completed song.

Depending on the file size, you may or may not be able to email it to me directly but you can certainly try at hellmouthpodcast@gmail.com. If that doesn’t work you can upload it directly to the Hellmouth Podcast website and I will work with each of you one on one to get that accomplished.

In addition, if you know of a place where I can buy the remaining song’s audio tracks without the vocals, let me know.

Remember, this is just for fun and I would like as many people as possible to participate. Even my voice will be in there. If you have any questions about any of this, don’t hesitate to call the Hellmouth Hotline or send me an email.

Update:

Hi all, just wanted to post another update regarding the next HMPC episode. Mrs. Hellmouth has been in the hospital since Friday. Needless to say I have been ver distracted and recording for the podcast is on hold until she is back home. No expected date for her return, will keep all posted.

Original Post:

Hello Hellmouth Podcast listeners. I just wanted to throw a quick update up on the website to let everyone know that I have had a family emergency this week that is going to delay the release of the podcast for the Season 2 finale.

I have not forgotten all of you and I will get the podcast out as soon as possible but I wanted to let everyone know that there will be a bit of a delay.

I will update the website when I have an idea as to when the podcast will be up, I am hoping by the end of this upcoming week.

Thanks,

Bryan

There is some big news coming to the Hellmouth Empire very soon. I am working on something that could either be very cool or very messy as it blows up in my face. Only time will tell. In the meantime, I am working on this new announcement this week which means the Hellmouth Podcast for What’s My Line could possible be delayed a couple of days. As of right now I am still on track to have it up by this weekend but that potentially could change. I will keep everyone posted, if you are intrigued about what the big news is, send me an email at hellmouthpodcast@gmail.com and maybe I will drop you a few hints.

For those of you who frequent the website, you undoubtedly have noticed that the website has undergone a pretty significant overhaul. Since the inception of the Hellmouth Podcast, I have tried to find a suitable format and design for the website with the proper combination of features, ease of use, and “pretty-ness”. Up to this point I have piggybacked on the work of others using designs that were created by others and available for use. I was unable to find a design that fit with the theme of the site and the podcast. Therefore I finally took matters into my own hands and designed the site myself. What you see before you is the finished product.

Some other website changes to take note of. If you are an RSS subscriber previously you have probably noticed that the RSS feed is only updated when new podcast episodes are released. While the podcast episodes are the core of the site, it is only a fraction of the activity on the site that happens on a daily basis. The site is constantly being updated with news and updates regarding the Whedonverse. Consequently, I have setup a second RSS feed that will incorporate all site updates. The podcast RSS feed will remain unchanged, if you only wish to receive RSS updates for new episodes then do nothing and your feed will remain unchanged. If you wish to subscribe to the Hellmouth Podcast RSS feed which includes all articles and news updates then that feed is now located here:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/HMPCBlog

You may also have noticed that along with the site redesign there are now a minimal amount of sponsor advertisements on the site. In the interest of full disclosure, I wanted to discuss, briefly, these advertisements. It is my pledge to you the Hellmouth Podcast listener that I will only include sponsor advertisements based on the following criteria:

  • It is a service or company that I personally use.
  • It is a service or company that I legitimately feel will be of interest to the podcast listeners.
  • Anytime I discuss or review a sponsor on the website or in the podcast, you will receive my honest opinion, good or bad.
  • The sponsor placed advertisements will never become cumbersome or an eyesore, making it difficult to navigate the site.

By clicking on the sponsor advertisements and participating in their promotions and purchasing merchandise you are supporting the Hellmouth Podcast and the work being done by the crew. The cost of equipment, software, hosting fees, etc. required to maintain and improve the podcast continues to increase. Your support of the Hellmouth Podcast helps to offset some of those costs and is greatly appreciated.

In addition to the sponsor advertisements, the Hellmouth Podcast now has a “donation” option. If you would like to support the Hellmouth Podcast directly instead of through sponsor promotions that option is available as well and is also greatly appreciated.

As always, any feedback regarding the new look of the website or suggested content is always welcome. I hope that the new site will encourage a number of you to keep up to date on what is happening in the Whedonverse and you will check back periodically to see what is going on with the site. Thanks for taking the time to read all the way to the bottom of a boring post about website stuff.

From Bryan:

“Hello everyone, I am very excited to introduce one of the new crew members of the Hellmouth Podcast, Oaktree. Oaktree has been a frequent email contributor to the show and has answered the call to help keep the HMPC Blog updated with news, articles, etc. If any of you are interested in being a blog contributor please email me at hellmouthpodcast@gmail.com. All total I would like to have 2-3 additional blog contributors so that we can keep a constant stream of new articles and ideas everyday. Enough about the podcast, everyone say ‘hello’ to Oaktree and without further ado here is Oaktree’s first blog update…”

Why I Love Buffy the Vampire Slayer

1.The name itself. I’ve had to defend it’s honor against charges of stupidity with a defense so long, detailed and some might say mind numbing, that most walk away rubbing their foreheads mumbling under their breath. Read the rest of this entry »

Ok folks, I realize that this post doesn’t necessarily fall in line with Whedon related news… I am a big fan of the TV Series Numbers. It is the only show on my Friday night schedule. I look forward to watching Charlie and Don Epps fight crime with math each week. Sounds nerdy when you say it like that.

Anyway, it appears as though Numbers (or Numb3rs) will not be returning next season since David Krumholtz has already lined up his next gig which is discussed here in this Entertainment Weekly article.

It is a sad, sad day for me as I will no longer have a Friday night show. So for all of you out there, I am now taking submissions for my Friday night viewing schedule. If you have a show that airs on Friday nights that should be under consideration, please comment or email me and let me know.
