Just thought I'd get a Topic going about Gwen

I thought she was an Interesting Character....that should have gotten more screen time.

What are your thoughts on Gwen?

I liked Gwen, I thought that she and Angel had an interesting dynamic. Almost a Batman/Catwoman type relationship. I think that the reason she didn't become more of a season regular is because she kind of threw a bit of a wrench in the Angel/Cordelia storyline that they kept toying with.

I always thought the connection was between Gwen & Gunn
The Heartbeat thing concerning Gwen & Angel was alittle iffy
But in my opinion that relationship would never have gone anywhere.

I really love the episode where we first see Gwen and her origin story is told.  It was such a big introduction that it almost seemed like she might be a spin-off, but at the very least, she was going to be a significant character.  But then it just seemed like no one knew what to do with her, and her subsequent appearances were not that compelling. A great opening with tons of potential that just petered out.  If she had been used in as interesting a way as she was in her first episode, I would have liked to have seen more, because I kind of dug her.

If I ever talk to another Angel exec, maybe I'll ask what happened with Gwen.

From what I read Joss wanted to bring back Alexa Davalos (Gwen Raiden) full time for Season 5 with the departure of Cordilia but Alexa had scheduling conflicts because she was filming Chronicles Of Riddick. I would have liked to see where they would have taken her storyline.

It would have been interesting I enjoyed the Gwen character, but not with Gunn.

Gwen was awesome. I think her character really fitted well into the universe; she had just enough superhero qualities without being over the top or too out of place (like Jhiera in that horrible S1 ep She). I certainly would've like to see a few more appearances of her, maybe not at the end of Season Four, but in Season Five.

I really liked Gwen but I don't think she really ever meshed with any of the AI members very well. I think that's probably one of the reasons she didn't come back. She's a very strong character on her own, but when you throw her in the mix, it doesn't really, well....mix.
