Really can't take issue with anything Angie and Bryan said about the badness of this episode. I find Kate's speech in the bar cringe-inducingly embarrassing. All of it, not just the lady smelling like mac and cheese part, although that part is horrifying. I mean, think about it: it's not her kitchen that smells like mac and cheese, it's her body. Blech. And there are so many nice things they could have had her smell like -- cinnamon, apples, lemons. Weird choice.
Personally, I can't stand Kate, qas I'm sure I've mentioned elsewhere. I think it's partly because when the character was introduced, I was fearful they were going to inject a police procedural aspect into the show, which I didn't want at all. And, yeah, the lack of chemistry between Kate and Angel is startling. And it would be hard to have chemistry with her, because she's not written as a person. Just an outline -- tough female cop with a heart. I guess this episode was meant to flesh out her character and create some connection between her and Angel -- i.e., they both have/had cold, critical fathers -- but it just doesn't work for me.

The episodes involving Kate's father don't do it for me at all. I think he's such a stereotype. And his relationship with his daughter is just so over the top that it makes me wonder why Kate is even trying to get his approval at all anymore.

I have to pretty much agree with this podcast. I used to be rather indifferent about this episode (apart from Kate's speech, it's so embarrassing I usually have to pause the video before watching it), but you guys made some very valid points, so I'm in the not-that-good camp now.
There's also a pretty hilarious outtake of the Herb Saunders scene on a later DVD (I think it's on the gag reel on S3), I certainly can't watch that scene without cracking up.

I don't have much to add - don't like Kate's father at all, don't think Kate adds much as a character and think she has no chemistry with Angel, and do like Herb Saunders.

Am I missing something, but did they ever break the spell? As far as we know, the sensitivity guy is still out there with his magic stick ready to go to the next city, much like Professor Harold Hill.

I don't violently hate it Lol I like The Lockley's(More than most people apparently) and Herb.....I don't like the magic sensi stick and how that played out. It was executed really poorly.

I don't hate this episode either. I just find it very forgetable. I had to go read the description before listening to remember which one this was.

I kind of like this episode, honestly. I find it funny. Probably Minear's worst episode but that's not saying much cause all his episodes are so damn good, usually. I like Kate and never really got the impression that she was introduced as a potential love interest, but that's probably only me. I actually really like Kate (and hate her dad, just a caricature and nothing more) and I thought her breakdown was heartbreaking, honestly. I know everyone's making fun of the mac & cheese thing but I thought it was really sad And of course, the funny. The "pain-bow" line makes me crack up every time and I love sensitive Angel. So, yeah, not my favorite but not the worst for me, either. I think there are many worse episodes in season 1 ("Lonely Hearts", "I Fall to Pieces", "Bachelor Party", "Expecting", and of course the awful awful awful "She") and I find this episode enjoyable despite it not being the best

'Bacherlor Party' is coming up soon. I can't be the only one that likes it,can I?
@BlasterBoy
I totally agree with 'Expecting' & 'She' being truely aweful.

I kind of liked Expecting. I thought the scene with Cordy in bed and the ghost handing her tissues was very touching.

I feel soooo bad for Cordy in 'Expecting'. It's another one of those concept is ruined by poor execution.For me anyway.

"Expecting" has some nice moments that keep it from being awful but I think the story is really stupid and it's hurt during rewatches because it's the first of the mystical pregnancies, I think. And the demon is just so bad. But there are some very nice Angel/Cordy/Wes scenes that I like in it. "She", on the other hand, is probably my least favorite episode in the Buffyverse with the only redeeming quality being the dance scene.
@FaithLehane: "Bachelor Party" isn't terrible but I'd say it isn't very good, IMO, mostly because I am largely uninterested by Doyle.
