I'm never really good at introducing myself but here we go: hi, my name is Maja and I'm from Germany (if there's anyone from another non-English speaking country or even Germany  - hello to you especially), I've been a fan of Joss Whedon's work for ages, but especially "Buffy" because I started watching it when I was still a teenager. I stumbled upon Bryan's podcast while searching the iTunes store for something related to my other nerdy obsessions (read: science fiction) a couple of weeks ago and grew to like it a lot. It eventually led me here Smiley.

Well, what more can I say? If there're any questions please don't hesitate to ask them, otherwise I'm looking forward to talking to you all in the forum.

See ya.

Welcome, Maja. I have a question. Do you watch Buffy in German or English?

Thank you all for welcoming me.

I have a question. Do you watch Buffy in German or English?

Hi Angie, good question. I started watching it when it was on TV, so it was dubbed. For a long time I didn't have a DVD player or a DVD drive on my computer so I actually bought the video cassettes from the UK when they came out, which was the only way to get an original version back then. It was a whole new world to me, because so much of the humour of the show depends on the language. Nowadays when I have to watch it in German (with other people who like the show but don't speak English) it is almost painful to me because so much of the humour gets skewered by the dubbing. It makes me realise how much of the performance of an actor has to do with his or her voice as well.

I've owned the DVDs for years now, which makes it possible to enjoy the audio commentaries and all the extras.

Welcome, Maja!  Where in Germany are you?  I lived in Fulda for three years and I loved every minute of it!  It is such a beautiful country and the people are wonderful!  Glad to have you on board.

Hi Barry. I live in Potsdam, that's very close to Berlin, the capital. I've never been to Fulda, but I think it's a pretty old town with a lot of history. Did you go to school there, or was it something work-related?

I'm glad you liked living in Germany, though.

Fulda is a beautiful town.  I was there when I was in the Army, before the Berlin Wall came down and Germany was reunited, so I never went into what was East Germany.  I was (am) a cyclist, so I spent a lot of time riding in the country.  When I go back, I will have to visit the parts I couldn't when I was there.

When you mentioned the Berlin Wall coming down I thought of two things,

1. watching the news that night of all the footage of the wall coming down.

2. David Hasselhoff rocking out on top of what was left of the wall

I think half of my brain cells are now voluntarily evacuating my head in protest...
